Challenge #1

The first challenge can be considered GPP general physical preparedness. This is what will prepare our bodies for the many trials ahead.  It will be a simple challenge in some ways,  but the hardest things are often the simplest.  The challenge is to prepare our bodies for any challenge we may undertake in the future.  The problem with most goals of this nature is that they are hard to quantify.  For a solution to this, I had to look no further than our own military.  It is after all, their business to get people ready for war.  And if that is as good a starting point as any.

Rumor has it that the Marines hold their recruits to the toughest physical standards, so we'll use their scoring system for the basis of our scores. Now the military divides scores up by age group,  but we ourselves will disregard age, and simply use the toughest scores as our guide.  Why strive to be anything but the best?  Since the Marines don't include pushups in their test(though I'm sure they do plenty), we've decided integrate the Army's pushup test, just to keep us on our toes.

We're basically looking a 3 mile run in 28 minutes or less, 3 or more pullups, 50 pushups and as many situps in 2 minutes as I can do,  female standards substitute flexed arm hangs for pullups.  Now these are the minimums.. and I'm sure not going to settle for 3 measly pullups.

full details of the scoring are here http://scetc.tecom.usmc.mil/SecurityAssistance/general/pft.asp and here http://www.army.com/enlist/push-ups.html ,  I'll be drafting up a tracking calculator soon, maybe even a nifty online one.

That's the long and short of it.   More details to come,  bring the pain.

We'll be setting a target date for completion soon.
