Jump Jump

I've been pretty lazy about exercising lately (and about writing posts). Beyond my walking commute I haven't really done much extra. Clearly I needed a kick-start.
Enter the jump rope. Jumping rope is a great working. It really gets your heart going. In fact, I read that 10 min of jumping rope is the same as 30 min of jogging. Given that time is at such a premium...sold!
So for less than $10 I bought a plastic speed rope and got to work. My first goal, jumping for 10 min, doing 1 min on, 30 seconds off (but it's important to keep moving during that 30 seconds).
Now I've had about 3 sessions of this at this point, and while my jumping is still not perfect, it's already getting better. The first time I tried I was not even able to jump for the full minute without tripping up. This was actually pretty shocking to me. I used to be a great jump roper in my youth...could do tricks and everything. And now, I couldn't even jump for a minute without hitting myself in the head or tripping over the rope. Humbling.
Thankfully by the third session, this was remedied. Yesterday I was able to do most of the "on" minutes without tripping up. The last 2-3 minutes are still a little shaky as that's when I start to get tired. But I have pushed through and look forward to when I will be able to jump the full 10.
