I love figs in both their fresh and dried form. While I might love fresh a little more, they are seasonal and incredibly temperamental. My sister say fresh figs are like a ninja, going from ripe to rotten in the blink of an eye. Dried figs are available year round-you can find them in the with dates (though I like figs much better), and are great for snacking or smancy appetizers.

When I was younger figs and nuts always followed large holiday/family meals. The holy grail of this was to get a grandfather or uncle to slice open a fig, and place a freshly cracked almond inside. Something about the chewiness of the fig, offset by the light cracking of the fig seeds, and the hearty crunch of the almond, makes this so satisfying.
Now I'm grown-up, and I can do this for myself, whenever I want! A few of these little "sandwiches" tossed in a baggie make a great snack during the day, provide a bit of protein, fiber, and natural sugar to pick you up.
For the more adventurous (and those who love cheese) figs go very well with stronger (stinkier) cheeses like Gorgonzola. An easy appetizer is to take some dried figs, cut off the top, or just slit the middle, and stuff with the cheese of your choice.
