Recipe Friday: Real Deal Microwave Popcorn

The Goog and I love popcorn. It's the snack of choice with us. While I think stove top is clearly the best method for popcorn, it's not something we do that often. That said, standard store bought microwave popcorn...it's just not that fantastic. It's too salty, too fake tasting...you get none of that good roasty corn flavor.
We began to search for other methods, and it turns out making your own popcorn in the microwave is simple...like humiliatingly simple. I'm pretty embarrassed to have not tried this sooner. It's so easy, tastes better (no weird chemicals, it actually tastes like corn) and is more economical.
Supplies:
Brown paper lunch bags
Popcorn kernels
Tablespoon of vegetable oil (optional....The Goog sometimes uses it, I don't)
Put about 1/4 cup of kernel in a brown paper bag. If you are going to use oil, add oil and shake.
Fold top of bag over a few times. You want it so the kernels won't escape, but that there is plenty of room for popped corn expansion.
Lay bag on it's side, and zap for about 3 minutes (this might take some experimenting, based on your microwave).
Presto! Delicious popcorn!
Note: if you don't use oil, you can likely reuse the paper bag a few times.

*Yes, stove-top is best, but you can't make is for just one on the stove, and I'm going to eat even enough popcorn for 20. So I try not to do it on the stove unless I have company. :)
*My microwave doesn't like the paper bag method anymore. I think we have a radiation leak or something, which doesn't bode well. I can only pop for about 1:30 and sacrifice some unpopped kernels, otherwise I get a big ball of blackened corn right in the middle of the bag. Gross.
*I do like a touch of oil (and salt), but was just given the obvious tip of tossing the kernels in the oil first to avoid the slimey bag problem.
