Sunday is Durian Day

This coming Sunday I will be gathering with some other faithful food adventurers (you may remember them from the grasshopper eating incident) to try something that has been call "the King of Fruits".
Durian can grow up to 1 foot long and weigh up to 7 pounds. At that size and weight, and with its thorn covered husk, Durian seems more like a spikey ball of death than any fruit most westerners are familiar with. It gowns high in trees, with nets strung across to catch falling fruit, because if one of these drops on you, it actually can kill you.
Durian is a famously polarizing food. People with love it or hate it (and by hate, I mean it invokes a gag reflex). It's custardy insides have been compared to "rotten onions, and baby diapers left out in the sun for days", or "rich custard highly flavored with almonds". Of TV foodies, Anthony Bourdain loves it, and Andrew Zimmern loathes it. Because of it's strong smell Durian has been banned from hotels, public transport and other public establishments. To that end our little tasting party will be happening in a back yard.
I am trying to go into this with an open mind. I'm interested to see what side I come up on in this, after all I like some pretty funky cheeses. Will I be on Team Zimmern, or Team Bourdain?
