Looking for that flavor

It's that time of the year yet again if you couldn't tell. The time when the wonderfull fall air starts to roll in and begin my favorite season. It's not the leaves, but it is the brisk morning air, the vanquishing of the insects and the smell of everything. And yes, it is the time when all good brewers take advantage of the cool but not cold weather to fire up their burners and try and squeeze as many batches in as possible before old man winter sneaks in to freeze fingers and blow out flames. So yes, this is yet another brewing blog, sue me!
I've been thinking lately, and there is something missing from my brewing. If I'm super self-critical, there are of course many things wrong. But the main thing lately I've thought of is that I don't really have a house flavor, an identity as a brewer or a real signature beer. I suppose that's not entirely true. I do make a mean pumpkin ale if I do say so myself. The problem of course is that's a seasonal brew. Nobody wants to be drinking pumpkin spiced ale on a hot August night. That is really the only beer I've brewed more than once. Many of the others have been experiments of one sort or another always trying new ingredients, methods, brew rigs etc.
What I really need to do is formulate a real crowd pleaser. A beer that tastes as good on a cold February morning after chipping the ice from the sidewalk as it does while mowing the lawn in July. This is a real; challenge as it means I must strike a balance between hops and malt, body and refreshment, alcohol and the ability to walk. The beauty of this however is that it will increase my skills. Once I get in the ballpark I will brew it over and over with only minor tweaks until perfection is reached. I think this repetition will truly allow me to hone my skills as a brewer. Brew the same beer 20 times and sure enough you'll know every flavor nuance after the 10th time.
So if any of you educated beer drinkers out there have any ideas, let me know. No idea is too dumb. Sorry, almost no idea is too dumb. “Like Sam Adams but with Lime” that's too dumb.
